After stumbling upon an old abandoned Danish manor four years ago, Trine Søndergaard regularly returned to visit the house, exploring its bare winter rooms and succession of long hallways, photographing its empty rooms, deserted attics, stairways and little nooks and crannies.
All of the shots taken over the four-year period now form a series entitled "Interior".

With this series, Trine Søndergaard clearly establishes her affiliation with the work of the 19th-century Danish painter Vilhelm Hammershøj, sharing the same subtle grey palette, keen sense of natural light and majestic rendering of its tiniest variations.

Blanketed in silence, the photographs of these spaces devoid of all human presence are an invitation to contemplate time and ponder the ties between painting and photography.
